Fudo Kuniyuki (Genkai Masakuni) Mizu Honyaki Fuguhiki 11-3/4" (300mm) Blade Knife with Ebony Handle and Ebony Wood Cover
[DESCRIPTION]
Fudo Kuniyuki is one of the brand names created by Genkai Masakuni.
Genkai Masakuni was the only apprentice of the legendary swordsmith Heian Okishiba Masakuni.
Okishiba Masakuni was a pioneer in producing high-end Mizu Honyaki kitchen knives. His Mizu Honyaki knives are well known for their extremely sharp edges and excellent edge retention.
Even today, master craftsmen in Sakai’s high-end cutlery community often speak highly of his work, and many collectors seek his knives.
This knife is a Fuguhiki, which means it is thinner and lighter than a Yanagiba.
Because of this design, it allows for faster and more delicate slicing compared to a standard Yanagiba.
This knife comes from the secondary market and is pre-owned, but in my opinion it is still in very good condition.
I am not completely certain what steel was used, but it is likely Mizu Honyaki White Steel or Blue Steel.
The original handle and saya are made of ebony, which suggests that this knife was made with high-grade materials.
The ebony handle had minor damage on the water buffalo horn ferrule. I repaired it with epoxy, and unless I mention it, it would be very difficult to notice.
The blade has been carefully sharpened by me and is ready to use right away.
The saya is also made of ebony.
